My top 3 (Pinot Noir) – Peter McCombie

Peter McCombie MW chooses Mahi ‘Marlborough’ Pinot Noir in his top three when reviewing Marlborough Pinot Noir in Decanter, January 2013. “Brian Bicknell makes Pinot Noir using fruit from 4 vineyards from across the Wairau valley, with hands off winemaking. The result is an accessible style, forward and pretty, with fresh red fruit nuances of spice and flowers. Tannins are fine with a long finish.”

Bright, ripe melon and lime fruits here, some passionfruit too. There’s a yeasty thread and added textural complexity thanks to judicious winemaking; great balance, fresh and settled.” Mahi ‘Boundary Farm’ Sauvignon Blanc 2011 RATING: 93 POINTS “Citrus, green papaya and lantana characters abound here with dollops of cream for good measure. A lot to like here with excellent clarity on the palate with lovely barrel rent characters sitting beautifully with the fruit on show.”   Mahi ‘Marlborough’ Pinot Gris 2011 RATING: 94 POINTS “Some lovely, subtle oak influence rears its head on the nose of this wine from Mahi.  There are detailed fruit characters of pear and citrus, some curdy, lees nuance, and lovely, cashewy oak notes that drag you into the glass. The oak adds some structure on the palate,…
