TWIN VALLEYS Vineyard

Our association with Pete and Anne Reed started when another wine company kindly recommended us to them, as a winery that would respect their Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. This was back in 2003 and since then we have had a great run with the wines from the Twin Valleys block, and every year we are lucky to take a little bit more.

We originally took their Clone 95 Chardonnay and have slowly expanded the intake so that we now also harvest three clones of Pinot Noir, three clones of Gewürztraminer, and also take some Sauvignon Blanc from their new parcel in Guernsey Road.

The Twin Valleys vineyard sits at the juncture of the Waihopai and Wairau Valleys which is quite far west in the valley. The vineyard is on the upper terrace so is quite elevated and this elevation and distance from the sea makes for a slightly cooler ripening period, which suits the varieties we take from the block. With Pinot Noir in particular we want to ensure that the fruit flavours are not burnt off and we look for parcels with this slower ripening.
